WE FOR YOUis an organization that undertakes development initiatives to positively impact the lives of the poor, marginalized and excluded sections of society, by encouraging and enabling their participation in the processes of their governance. It strives for achievement of equity and justice, through a people centered approach, focusing on 'Citizens' - 'their participation and inclusion', 'awareness and empowerment' and 'their democratic rights'.

WE FOR YOUrecognizes the value of people's knowledge, challenges traditional myths and concepts, raises awareness of people's rights and promotes experiential learning. It applies a multi- dimensional strategic approach to creating knowledge, training and capacity building of stakeholders, public education and policy advocacy and intervenes at various levels of the demand and supply segments, to reach out locally, nationally and globally.Informed, empowered citizens participate in deepening democracy with re­spect and tolerance for plurality and diversity. A balance between citizens' rights and responsibilities is nurtured through a balance between authority and accountability. Individual freedom and autonomy is sustained with collective solidarity for public good. WE FOR YOU’s vision of a desirable world is based on values of equity, justice, freedom, peace and solidarity.

WE FOR YOU’sundertakes its programmatic interventions at various levels combining three key strategies:

  • Maximum utilization of Right to information act
  • KnowledgeBuilding
  • Policy Advocacy
  • Capacity building

Right to Information:

    This is the one of the best policy ever made by the government of India since Independence which in true sense will help to strengthen the spirit  of Democracy hence proving the punch line of Late President of America “Democracy is of the people ,by the people and for the people” right. Now in reality people would have their voice in Democracy, and their voice will not be ignored easily.

But the moot question is how we are going to utilize our right in proper way. We need to spread the advantage of this right to every corner of the country. Untill unless we will not come forward as a conscious citizen nothing miraculous can be done. So WE FOR YOU urge all people of India to utilize this right in proper way. 

CapacityBuilding: 

CapacityBuildingentails direct strengthening of capacities of a variety of actors:

  • Citizens
  • Citizen organisations
  • Voluntary development organisations
  • Support organisations
  • Networks and coalitions of such organisations

wide variety of methods are used in enhancing and strengthening capacity at individual, institutional and sectoral levels. Besides structured training of short and long durations such methods also include exposure visits, field placements, apprenticeships, project work, library work and systematic reflection of experiences. Innovations in capacity building themes and methods must guide WE FOR YOU’s efforts in future. Information dissemination becomes a major mechanism for a multiplier effect in capacity building.

Information dissemination can benefit by using new Information Technology. Better synthesis, packaging and promotion of new knowledge can be enabled through this. Better use of existing media for communicating knowledge should include print and electronic media, journals, conferences, academia, etc.

Policy Advocacy:

Policy Advocacy entails influencing policies from the vantage point of enabling participation and empowerment of the marginalised. It comprises of systematic and ongoing monitoring of existing policies, their implementation and reformulation. It also involves building networks, coalitions and alliances of like-minded individuals and organisations. It implies convening fora of such different yet commonly concerned actors. It requires structuring of dialogues across differing perspectives and players. It entails establishing linkages and accountability between micro and macro issues and actors. It entails lobbying, campaigning and public education through a variety of methods.
WE FOR YOU’s unique contribution is to work with partners and others interested in creating enabling environment and policies for enhancing democratic participation of the hitherto excluded. This is citizen advocacy not just professional advocacy.

Knowledge building:

KnowledgeBuildingentails engaging in critical and systematic study of issues, processes and institutions, which enable or disable citizens’ voice and participation in shaping their own life and in deepening democracy. Production of new knowledge is linked to its purpose of social change; methods and tools enable partnership and cooperation with those who will use the results of such starting point for building new knowledge; sharing of results of such study; existing experiences and popular knowledge are acknowledged as a starting point for building new knowledge, sharing of results is undertaken in a manner that empowers citizens to act in shaping their lives; organic linkages and accountability between research and action, researcher and practitioner, and learning and empowerment is assured.

The three broad strategies operate in an integrated and interlinked manner. Each programme thrust area utilizes different combination of these three strategies, which vary over a period of time.
